11 Legitimate Ways You Can Make Money Fast

We have been conditioned to think that it takes an enormous amount of time to make money. In some cases, that is the truth. For instance, if you’re looking to build a rock-solid investment portfolio, you don’t want to bother with day trading. You want to buy and hold for years to come. However, the idea that it takes a long time to make money only applies in some areas of life. If you’re in a bind now, it’s quite possible to make money fast. Not sure how? That’s what we’re going to explore in this post – a host of ways you can use to make money right now.

A Caveat

Before we dive into the methods I want to explore to help you make money fast, I need to make something clear. I’m not talking about earning a million dollars overnight. I’m not talking about generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in hours. It doesn’t work that way. If you want to become a millionaire, I recommend you check out my post on earning your first million. If you want to build a business empire, I recommend you check out my post on how to become your own boss. However, if you need an infusion of capital to help you get started with your business-domination plans, this post is definitely for you!

What This Post Is Not

I also want to take a second to point out what this post is not. Namely, a way to get rich quick. None of the methods I will explore are get rich quick schemes. While there are ways to create wealth quickly, even ways to earn a significant income with limited input from you, none of them work overnight. Anyone telling you otherwise is trying to sell you something that’s not worth buying. So, if you’re looking for a way to get rich without having to put forth any effort, then this post is not for you.

With those two notes out of the way, let’s get to the list of ways you can make money fast.

1. Drive for a Lift Company

The days when taxi companies dominated the travel world are long gone, although they’re still crying about it. The gig economy is in full swing, and there are few better ways to make cash fast while actually enjoying what you’re doing than driving for Uber, Lift, or one of the other car-for-hire companies out there today. Will you get rich? Absolutely not. However, you’ll earn cash on the side, get to know people, and have a lot of fun at the same time, so it sounds like a win to me.

2. Get Creative

Do you have creative skills, such as painting, sewing, knitting, ceramics, woodworking, candle making, or something else? If so, there are plenty of places that you can put those skills to work and earn an income at the same time. For instance, Etsy is the place to be if you’re able to create physical handicrafts. Whether you’re making hand-crafted candles, carving fireplace mantles by hand, welding custom metal signs or something else, you can sell it on this market. You can do something similar with CafePress if you’re an artist or designer. There are also other places you can do this, such as Facebook Marketplace and eBay to name just a couple.

3. Ask for a Raise

Most of us make the mistake of waiting around for our bosses to give us a raise. This stems from the notion that if we put in the hard work, and we show up every day, those above us will notice our dedication and reward us with more pay. That’s a pipe dream. If you want to earn more money at your job, you need to ask for it. Otherwise, your boss is just going to keep paying you the same amount for your efforts thinking that you’re totally fine with what you’re earning. Be prepared to negotiate on this raise, as well.

Find out how much others in your position are earning through sites like Glassdoor.com or PayScale.com. Then, once you have some hard proof that you should be earning more, approach your boss about giving you a raise. However, make sure that you’re actually a good candidate for getting a pay bump. If you suck at your job, you can skip this step. If you’re constantly missing work, you can likely say goodbye to your dreams of a raise.

Only those who know their value to the company should flat out ask for a raise. If you’re not completely sure you’re worth more money, you can bet that your boss isn’t going to just cave in and agree to pay you more for no reason. Take the time to up your performance, and dial in your ability to exceed expectations. Then ask for more money.

4. Go Freelance

Just like creative types can earn money by selling their products through sites like Etsy or CafePress, skilled professionals can earn money by selling their knowhow and skills. There are plenty of sites out there that let you freelance and make money off what you already know to do. For instance, you could go with Fiverr.com if you’re not in a particularly high-paid specialty. If you have other skills, you might choose to go with a site like Freelancer.com – everyone from freelance writers to accountants to web designers can find work here.

5. Get into Self-Publishing

Have you always dreamed of writing the next great American novel? Do you have an inspirational story to share? Want to help people eat healthier, or lose weight through exercise? Write a book and publish it yourself. It’s never been simpler to produce quality books and sell them through the Internet. The age of self-publishing is here, and the gatekeepers that traditionally made it difficult or impossible to become a published author are gone (or at least have been bypassed). Write your book and then publish it with Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and other online sites.

6. Get into Affiliate Marketing

One of the best ways to make money fast is with affiliate marketing. I covered this in great depth in my post How to Make Money with Affiliate Marketing, but I’ll recap here. Affiliate marketing lets you make money by referring website and blog visitors to product manufacturers and retailers – you recommend products you love, and you get rewarded when people buy. It’s as simple as that.

7. Take Pictures

Do you have a camera? Do you have an eye for composition and the perfect shot? You can make money as a photographer. Take photos and then upload them to sites like iStockPhoto.com or ShutterStock.com to let others buy them as they like. Or, you can upload them to your own site built on BigCommerce, use them with sites like Fotolia or turn them into t-shirts and mugs on SmugMug.com. Once you start making money, reinvest it in yourself and buy new gear, like for example the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, then you can ramp up your efforts and become a professional photographer, a wedding photographer, or a wildlife photographer.

8. Become a Personal Trainer

Do you know a lot about fitness and health? Are you passionate about helping other people shed their weight and become healthier and happier? If so, then becoming a personal trainer could be a great option. Couple this with writing and publishing fitness books and you could easily create a money-making career rather than just making money fast to tide you over.

9. Gardening

Do you have a green thumb? Love to pull weeds and help flowers and shrubs thrive? Do you “dig” planting and beautifying the landscape? If so, you can make money by offering gardening services to people in your area. This can range from weed pulling to transplanting to completely redesigning flower beds, but there is major demand for these services, particularly in suburban and urban areas.

10. Become a Professional Organizer

People’s lives are more hectic and disorganized than ever before. Our homes are, as well. If you’ve always been called a neat freak, you can put those natural inclinations to work and make money fast. Professional organizers help people reclaim control over their lives, their homes, their garages, their storage buildings, and more. Share your services through social media, encourage your customers to do the same, and you could quickly create a money-generating business.

11. Use Airbnb

Do you own your own home? Do you have a guestroom that you don’t use very often, or at all? Perhaps you have space over the garage that could be converted into a spare room? Whatever the case, you can rent that room out through Airbnb. Travelers from all around the world are happy to pay good money to stay in your unused space. Plus, if you have somewhere you can go, you could even rent out your entire home for additional cash.

In Conclusion

These are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to ways that you can make money fast. There are tons of other options. For instance, you could invest in yourself and sign up for my 'Six Figure Sunday' course (click here to sign up) where I’ll teach you how to build a six-figure income and still only work one day per week.
